I asked around, checked the state website, and found out that I was able to vote with a state-issued ID, yay! So, I hit the polls and got my awesome "I voted" sticker.
I will be running a 5k at the zoo next weekend. It's pretty intimidating! I wasn't able to find anyone else interested in running it with me. My brother was willing.. just for something to do, but he's got to work that weekend, so that's out. My workout partner doesn't even want to try!
I did convince my hairdresser that it would be fun, but he's way more athletic and fit than I am. He won't be doing the 5k. He's going to do the 10k! Crazy guy. I will hopefully finish way before him, but at least we can meet up beforehand and cheer each other on.
I will be hosting a family dinner at the house in a few weeks. It MAY be the first time the entire immediate family has gathered together since my youngest brother's wedding. IT'll be right before Dad's birthday, so I've convinced mom to bake him a cake. They may be divorced, but that doesn't mean he doesn't miss her baking. He won't admit it openly, but I can tell he's really sad that he doesn't get christmas cookies anymore, and he really wants a birthday cake. I am thankful that we will be able to all get together, and I wont' have to worry about them fighting. When they split, I don't remember any seething animosity, so we should all be able to enjoy a meal together once every few years.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention... I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year. I suppose that's obvious since I haven't posted about it before now. I think it's a bit much for me to split my attentions that much between so many things that need a lot of discipline. Maybe next year. I don't know. I don't think I'm really cut out to be a writer. It was a neat thing to do, and I'm glad I did it. I was able to proove to myself that I COULD do it. And, it's something I can say I've done at least once in my life.
Now, if you are a JoCo fan, you may or may not be familiar with a song called "A Talk With George." It seems like great life advice! Too bad it's impossible to do most of those things without a time machine :P
I don't really have a huge passion for it, though, and I need way too much positive reinforcement to keep at it, so I don't think I'm going to bother anymore :X
Not too much else going on with me. My halloween costumes turned out great. I got a lot of compliments on them. They weren't particularly original, but I had a lot of fun doing the makeup for the vampire one, and accessorizing the skanky pirate one. It's given me even more ideas for dumb costumes next year. (if I remember them that long) LJ feels pretty dead!
I haven't really felt like sewing much lately, but I did finally get around to watching Madoka Magica, and now I want to make a Kyoko costume. Go figure I pick the red one, right? I don't know that I'd make that one solo, though. That seems like the kind of thing it would be good to have a huge group for. It's been a while since I've made a contemporary anime costume. When I thought about it that way, though, I suddenly got the urge to make all sorts of obscure oldschool stuff :/
And I still don't feel like sewing!
The only thing I HAVE been working on is this T-shirt quilt. Every few days, I'll work on some more squares. At this rate, it will take months. I should try to finish it by the end of this month in case I need more blankets for guests, though :X I went through our T-shirts, and picked out 36 that were too big that I really liked& didn't want to get rid of. I'm using this site here for a guide: http://www.goosetracks.com/T-Shirt%20Quilt%20Instructions.html
The shirt will be mostly Venture Brothers, since I'm including all 13 of my S2 T-shirt club shirts, as well as the bonus shirt, and one that Matt had.. plus some anime shirts and other random stuff. It seemed like a good way to put some of the ones I really loved (but didn't fit to good use. I was actually running low on shirts either one of us was willing to cut up, so a handful of my baby dolls are going in there, too. Two threadless shirts, and my Edward Scissorhands tech. schematic shirt from ThinkGeek. I still have a TON of shirts leftover, though. It makes me think I should be making 2 quilts -..-
Anyway, if anyone wants to see pics of it when it's done, let me know and I will post them. Let me know if you want halloween costume pics, too, and I'll see what I can do about uploading them to scrapbook!
