So apparently FFXIII comes out next Tues, not last Tues. Whoops!

By the way- Don't be mad at me. I'm letting you know like two weeks in advance, celine

The new Tri-Ace game is coming out on the 16th. Resonance of Fate

Also, there's some RPG released by Nippon Ichi called Last Rebellion. It has some dude that looks like evil Luke/that red=haired guy from Kingdom Hearts that all the creepy fangirls have to cosplay teams up with a Colette lookalike, and they fight stuff. They share a body and bicker over who gets to use it, and it's totally not a Tales game. The reviews say it is terribad!

last rebellion is by hitmaker, the heroes who brought us blade dancer and dragoneer's aria. i didn't play blade dancer, but dragoneer's aria was pretty terrible and apparently it's the exact same game but with pretty korean art.

resonance of fate looks interesting. i like the costume changes and the guns. but tri-ace have a tendency to burn me really bad lately...star ocean 4 was unplayable.

i kinda want this umpteenth remake of lunar 1. i'm definitely going to get SMT and Sakura Wars V this month though.

Ah crap.. I forgot about Strange Journey. I need to get that too. I really loved Infinite Undiscovery. It was a totally predictable RPG, but I loved the fact that everyone picked on the hero because he sucked. Eventually he stopped sucking, but no one liked him as much as the guy he was impersonating, which I thought was hilarious. That, and his preference in boobs changed throughout the story.

I haven't gotten much farther than the opening in Star Ocean 4. I feel kind of bad, because I loved the first two, and was super excited to have them on PSP. When 3 came out, I played all the way up to the "twist" at the end of the first disc/beginning of the second disc, and kind of just gave up on it. I thought that story element was totally retarded. When 4 came out, I picked it up, and starting on the Calnus was exciting and everything, but I lost interest right after the first boss fight when you get Legolas. I'll go back to it eventually, but I've got so much other stuff to play right now

i liked infinite undiscovery! i need to go back to that actually. i just destroyed that chain during the storm and now i'm in the snowy country.

so4's first boss was terrible! i guess there's some trick to beating him that i never figured out. it took me about ten tries, and the battle where i actually won was a lot shorter than all the times i failed.

it went even further downhill with a crash-land on a medieval planet (oh what a surprise) and your fourth party member being a 10 year old girl with cat ears who finishes ever sentence with "kay?" (ohhh what a surprise). this was enough to make me trade it in for resident evil 5.

that said, i also loved the first two games, and i really like the psp remake of so1. i also gave up at the same point in so3.

I am tempted to buy Lunar. But I already bought it on the Sega CD, and PS1, and Game Boy... I mean, really guys.... They want me to buy it on the PSP now and I probably will. It keeps getting worse each time but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

same here, but there's the new scenario where you play as dyne and co!

i think the graphics are kinda ugly this time, though.

also does anybody agree with me that the sega cd's redbook audio soundtrack was amazing, and subsequent rescores were pretty generic? the music for black rose street and the grindery were great.
Fulbright Kuzunoha XXVsecret_plot on March 7th, 2010 12:16 am (UTC)
okay nevermind this is a really terrible, loveless remake. it's ugly, it's slowwww (no loading times, it just takes forever to do anything, walking, screen transitions, closing dialogue boxes, etc) and it takes out all the charm, turning Lunar into a...charmless game.

the "new scenario" is a 5 minute cutscene and unloseable battle with a faceless villain, ala Lufia. then the game begins.

the most positive thing i can say is that it re-uses the PSX/Saturn version's cutscenes. but that begs the question "what's the point?"

i'm going to go convert my copy of silver star story complete in psx2psp and play that instead.

dear devs: stop remaking games that were great. in fact stop remaking things altogether

Yea, regarding Resonance of Fate, fuck my life. I finally decide to start buying some modern day consoles and modern day games and now it's bankrupting me.

Anyway, isn't the asshole behind Valkyrie Profile 2 involved with this one? Maybe it'll suck and I won't have to buy it. I'm definitely not buying it this month. FF13 totally, that one, no.

I dunno! I actually really liked Valkyrie Profile Silmeria. I didn't have to hop on crystals. That really pissed me off. What kind of sucked was Valkyrie Profile Cursed Plume. The one that was a strat/tactics one. Gah.

In Resonance of Fate, though.. you have guns!
Fulbright Kuzunoha XXVsecret_plot on March 6th, 2010 09:26 am (UTC)
i liked silmeria too. i ended up giving up on it though when i reached a story dungeon where i was unable to cause damage to any of the monsters.
cursed plume was pretty bad though, not only was it a generic tactics game, it also felt like they didn't finish programming it.

also tri-ace's transition from anime art into the uncanny valley really freaks me out.

I got all the way up to the end of Silmeria, opened up the Sepheric gate, etcetc, and couldn't beat the end boss. I got angry and never came back. I meant to go through the megadungeon some more and get some levels, etc, but I couldn't get past the first special boss in there. That shit's hard, yo!

One of the bonuses in that dungeon were little sections where you could see important cutscenes in the game acted out by dogs in all the main character's clothing. It was so bizzare.
