Costume crap!

I decided that if I'm going to spend a lot of time away from the house next week, I need to work with all my toxic chemicals now. I'm still completely stumped with my Mayuri beard& horn, though. I came up with a few ideas, but they're less than optimal. Maybe I can carve them out of styrofoam, seal them, and then cover them in fabric. I know that method will work, but it's time consuming. It'll take half a week to get them where I know they won't fall apart if hit, dented, etc. If I bring a brush and some mod podge, I guess I could work on it away from home, though.

I remembered that I have an awesome black& green velvet beret from one of my first scarbys. It always sits on my Stitch plus (of Lilo& Stitch), and I decided to wear it this weekend. The problem is.. it's green and black. My top is red and gold.. my shirt is white.. and I guess I'm wearing black pants and hideous white running shoes??

So... I spent the night hand-sewing gold trim around the band of the beret. That will help it match with the top. I'm also gluing together some red, yellow, and black feathers. Hopefully, the yellow will help draw the gold/yellow tones upward and also help it match a little bit. The red definitely will. The black.. I probably didn't need those, BUT HEY! They look really cool. I'm using a lot of the yellow and black feathers I have left over from the Yu~ki costume, as well as my last yellow-dyed pheasant feather. When everything dries, I'll trim the quills so the whole shape comes to a point.

I also took a pendant I bought a few years ago and threaded some gold tassles through the pendant hook. Upside-down, the gold tassels will hang from it, and it'll be a great hat decoration. I'll be able to stitch it to the hat with the feathers in-between and I'll have an awesome.. thing.. to match with.. things. And I'll be great in it's thing-ness. I hope.

If I feel SUPER EXTRA MOTIVATED tomorrow when Matt is asleep, I will sew some green shoe-covers so I don't feel so dumb in white& pink nike runners. Somehow I don't think I'll get that far, though.

I did have some pretty comfortable shoes that I glued some brown suede to for my Chacha costume, to make ghetto rennie moccasins, but I think maybe I threw them out. I used them for multiple costumes, not to mention how much I wore them in highschool.. omg.

You have no idea how great those shoes were. They had a uranium-orange inside with purple suede on the outside. They were fantastic! By the time I glued the brown to them, they had long outlived their awesomeness as purple suede shoes, though. And by the time I wore them for our Damekko doubutsu group, they were falling apart. They'd probably be ok for renfest, but I'm pretty sure I don't even have them anymore.

Can you tell how I'm all about historical accuracy? -..-
I'm probably just going to be wearing black slacks with my top! haha~!
A skirt would totally hide my shoes, and I have a skirt, but I don't think a skirt will work with the top I bought. I don't know. Maybe I'll try a bunch of stuff on together tonight and see if I can find somthing I can live with.

My ghetto-ness shall prevail!

Oh yeah.. aside from the putzing around I've done today, I haven't gotten shit done for that Mayuri costume, and I really wanted to make a small creepy plush doll of his bankai. Maybe I can organize materials and make it happen.. I don't know...

I kind of forget about Livejournal now. It feels so empty that I've joined a bunch of communities, but it's not really helping! Since November,…

  • November is almost over already?!?!

I've really enjoyed not having anything important to do for a while. I've been cleaning (a little bit), quilting (a lot, but in short bursts), and…
