I get an epi-pen!

I went to the doc's for my annual checkup/cooter cave crawl/bloodwork, and I told him about the exciting allergic reactions I've had this year. I told him I was interested in getting an allergy test done, since I'd never had one before. He seemed kind of concerned with my exciting extreme and sudden allergic reactions, so he wants me to carry an epi-pen now in case somthing really exciting happens and benadryl doesn't help. Whoah!

What is an epi-pen?

It's a gizmo with medication in it for if you have a severe/life threatening allergic reaction to somthing. It's got a needle, and you have to jab yourself with it if you're having a really really bad reaction. Usually people that are deathly allergic to things like bees and peanuts carry them. You basically take the cap off of the needle and jam it into your leg to stop yourself from dying!

What is in it that magically prevents death? Do they have different ones for different allergies?

I'd have to check the label. I haven't filled the prescription yet. I think it's a shot of adrenaline or somthing. All allergic reactions are basically the same, so you don't get somthing special in an epi pen if you're allergic to certain things. The Epi is basically a last resort emergency shot of somthing that keeps you from going into anaphylactic shock
