So, my latest project consisted of a lot of good, hard, caulking. Matt gets a kick out of listening to me talk about caulking. He giggles.
I spent about a day trying to get all the old stuff out of there. I can tell that particular tub has been re-caulked at least once before. I'm guessing it was done right before they sold the house. They didn't pull the old stuff out when they did it, though, so in some places I was pulling out softer caulk and then using a steak knife to get the harder stuff out that was jammed farther back. It was a huge mess. I wasn't even able to get all of it up. I had a caulk removing tool that came with the smoothing tool for the fresh stuff. While it managed to work to a point, it was only a plastic tool, and really couldn't handle the really old stuff. It kind of just wedged it in the further. I really did my best to get all the old stuff out of there, but I gave up after a few hours. It was pretty bad too. The older stuff started pulling up the finishing on the porcelain on the tub, which wasn't attractive. I had to cut my losses and try to clean the stains on the stuff I couldn't get up.
I played with some baking soda and vinegar, because the way it fizzes is fun. A freind suggested it to me, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It did a much better job than I was expecting, but it couldn't get rid of the mildew stains. I tried some CLR, too, and that didn't really do it either. After a few more hours of fighting the tub with cleaners, I just rinsed it all out, wiped it down, and let it dry overnight.
Yesterday, I had a horrible allergic reaction to somthing mysterious. I woke up, drank a little bit of tea and started on some cut kiwi for breakfast when half of my lip puffed up and I started to feel my throat swelling shut. I paniced and took a claritin and some benadryl, but before it could really do any good, I threw up. A lot :/ WTF. Seriously.. I like kiwi, and I have it often enough that I know I'm not allergic to it and shouldn't have developed an allergy to it. Then again, maybe I did? Another exciting factor with scary extreme allergic reaction response was the cleaning I did yesterday, but it wasn't like I washed my hands in toxic chemicals and then licked them clean. Somthing else for consideration is the fact that while I'm trying to eat better, sometimes it's much more convenient for me to buy packages of sliced fruit from the grocery store instead of buying the individual fruit and cleaning it. I'm much more likely to have some kiwi& strawberry out of the pre-sliced grocery section for breakfast than waking up and cleaning a kiwi and some strawberry. There could have been some sort of X factor in the container.. not to mention the fact that they probably spray that fruit with some sort of preservative to keep the color wile it's on the shelf for a few days. I really don't know. At any rate, now I'm afraid of kiwi. It's added to my list of other things I shouldn't be allergic to. Like that night we made salmon with a yogurt/caper sauce and asparagus. I was fine that night, but the very next day I ate the leftovers and had a horrible reaction... to.. somthing.
I don't have a frail constitution. I don't know why I'm developing wacky reactions to things >:O I'm going to ask for an allergy test next time I get to the doctor. I was supposed to go in for my yearly last month, but the line to see my doc for annual checkups like this is so long that when I called in mid-December, they said the next available openings wern't until March. WTF D: I wonder if I should put in for next year's physical after I get out of this one.
Anyway.. because of the epic nature of my caulk project, I watched all of the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings movies. It took two days D: The extended editions are great, but each movie is like 4 hours long. lol. Because of this, they're split up onto two DVDs. It's a bit of a pain, so I was thinking it would be pretty awesome if there were extended editions on Blu-Ray, that way, you wouldn't have to swap disks. Unfortunately, it hasn't been released yet. I'm a little surprised. I have to wonder if the Blu-ray releases will be the theatrical cuts of the movies, or what. I mean, I know I've seen all of the extended editions before, but I guess I wasn't paying much attention during Return of the King? Because there was a whole lot going on there that I didn't remember... stuff that really fleshed the movie out and made certain scenes in the theatrical cut make a whole hell of a lot more sense.
At any rate, my caulk is curing, but it takes 48 hours!! My hair feels so icky, I need to shower!! I thought about going to my stylist and begging him to just wash my hair. lol. I'm too lazy to scrub the guest bathroom tub, but it's gotta get done. I feel pretty accomplished for getting this project done, though. It's somthing I would have just rather let Matt do, but I've slowly had to do more and more of this stuff myself if I want it to get done at all. I can't give him too hard a time, though. He knows that I have horrible sinus problems with dust and mold, and he always takes care of changing out the air filters in the house so that I don't spend the rest of the day congested if I were to change them myself.
