But we have reservations, so it's definitely happening now. It's going to be a crazy week. Akuma will be getting off of work for the week on Tues. We're leaving for Houston that Weds..Driving back to Waco on Thurs, then leaving for Dallas (Animefest) on Friday.... con Fri-Mon, coming back to Waco Mon, then Akuma goes back to work on Tues.
(This would totally be an excuse to steal away Bevo and take her to A-fest.. but since I wouldn't be going back to Houston, I wouldn't want to take her home :X )
In other news...
I love my little sewing machine, but I hate it at the same time :( It's a great machine, but I miss the massive ammount of metal in the old Nelco. The bobbin casing in the Nelco was metal.. but the one in the Bernina is plastic. Sometimes when the bobbin isn't wound tight enough/correctly, the needle will catch on some loose thread, and jerk up, dislodging the plastic bobbin casing, and messing up the whole bobbin/bobbin casing/etc assembly. Then I have to unscrew it and right the bobbin casing to make it happy again. This CAN'T be good for the casing. It already has a few scratches and gouges and punctures in the plastic where it accumulated battle scars fighting against the needle and the machine when that happens. It's still under warranty, so I can get it replaced, but it's always a pain to have problems when I'm sewing before a con. I'm trying to make lysariala's wing harness.
I totally freaked out when I couldn't get the bobbin case to sit correctly in the machine at first. I didn't think I'd be able to use the machine again before the con. I tried getting ahold of Nick, to see if I could get him to mail his wing harness down. I mean.. he has the whole Hyouko costume up there. I spent a looong time working on those wings, but I don't think he's worn the costume since I made him wear it at Afest :O So I figured he wouldn't miss the wing harness for a con. Maybe he'll wear it to NDK and I can squee over how great the wings look. Go me. But yeah. Need harness.
I managed to get the machine back together again, and it seems to be ok.. but it's skipping about every 15-20th stitch like clockwork. It's weird. I've never had problems with skipped stitches before, so I'm going to have to check the manual and see if I can figure it out. It's a brand-new needle..(since every time the bobbin casing/machine/needle fight, the needle always loses first)but I can always try re-winding the bobbin and putting some new thread on there. After that.. it's manual and dicking with the tension.
I wish I knew a little bit more about sewing machines. I don't feel totally ignorant, but there are things I could stand to learn
