I actually got a lot of stuff done today, though.
The Government and you
I visited the Social Security office today and finally had my last name changed with the government. I still need to re-do my W2s at work, renew my driver's license, and change my name on a credit card, in that order.
But... for those of you who have known me for a few years...
Yes, it did take me a long time to do it. Yes, I did procrastinate. No, there was no reason to wait over a year XD
But it's done now!
The Dentist!: Or, How his Oral Hygenist is of the devil, and I learned to love anesthetics
I also need to go to the dentist. I've been dreading it.. but now that I'm on Akuma's dental insurance, I have no excuse. There's an old filling that's giving me some problems, just like the one that was bugging me last year. But.. both of these were my first two fillings (ever). This is also what I get for not visiting the dentist at all during the duration of my education at Baylor. (5 years. Ow.) My dental laundry list is really long. I need to have the left half of my mouth taken care of.. and then there are probably new spots on the right side... and I have to go find an orthedontist covered by Akuma's insurance so I can get my wisdom teeth surgically removed. They're all soft-tissue impacted. (Meaning.. they really tried to join the rest of the tooth party in my mouth, but didn't quite make it and gave up after they'd broken through the gums)
Thankfully, they're not too crooked, so they're not messing with the rest of my mouth. They just need to go so that I don't have to worry about cavities or gum problems.
UGHHHH I hate the dentist so much... but I have to go T..T Probably sometime this week, after I figure out what my work schedule is.
Work sucks, but I have a job
Um... just the header, basically.
It's not really a bad job. Like Hastings, I don't loathe it for any major obvious reasons. The company does little things.... that slowly drive you insane. Stupid policies.. things that don't make sense... etcetc. On top of that, I have to deal with people who HAVE to play SIMS2 RIGHT NOW, but don't know their computer capabilities, or if they even have a DVD-ROM. The happy news is... once the software is sold, no retuns!! HAHAHAHAHA
The only thing I've been working on right now is a commission. I want to get some photos up soon, but you guys know how I am about that XD
I'm hoping to get some photos of the bottom half soon. I don't have all the vinyl painted and attached yet, but it's getting there. I think I know how I'm going to sculpt the mer-lion lapel pin now, though, so I might do that soon.
Other than that, not much going on right now.
Akuma and I went out today and had fun. We saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow... and it was pretty cool. I really loved the concept of a modern "silent film" style movie. It, of course, had sound.. but it didn't have TOO much extraneous dialogue .. but it had a very 1930's Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" feel to it.
Some things I liked:
~~The use of angles
~~The use of light and shadow. Shadows were used to draw your attention to certain parts of the frame. It's nice to see a movie that isn't constantly centered on the main character when he's in the frame.
Some things that bothered me:
~~The soft smudgy look is great, to an extent. It really started to wear on me after a while, though. I realize what they were trying to accomplish.. and there's no way they could have done it by only doing part of the movie that way, so it really can't be helped
~~Some of the script was just plain silly. The reporter pulls some journals out, and before she's even flipped through the first 5 pages, she's giving a condensed summary without having even read them. This was all information vital to the plot, but a very silly and contrived way to get it across to the audience
Ugh.. I can't sleep. I took a nap after we got back from the movie, and woke up at 9pm. This is really going to mess me up. Good thing I work a closing shift tomorrow XD
