Why do they insist on calling is "Escapist Literature," anyway?

I find that highly offensive. It's like saying that you read those kinds of books because you can't cope with everyday life.
The term kind of looms over you.. like you ought to be reading somthing important and intellectual all the time, instead of "escaping" into some silly fantasy world. I resent that :P
I'd rather not read anything important, intellectual, or so-called-"life-changing" anytime soon, thankyouverymuch
I have my own share of important-looking books, and I do read them from time to time.. but should my pleasure reading be labeled so condesendingly?
It's annoying.
