I'm feeling linky today
Yup.

Anyway...I was finally able to buy the movie "Willard" the other day. I picked up the new Matrix movie also.. and they gave me 2 free rentals for buying it :)
So.. I'm probably going to go rent some things I'd been thinking about trying out for a while.. like Kikujiro, and maybe somthing else... I don't know what, yet. :/ Last time I tried to rent Taboo, it ended up being the wrong one, and I was very depressed XP I don't know.. last time I was in the mood for somthing different, I rented "Topsey-Turvey" and enjoyed it very much!
So... here's your little assignment.
Suggest a movie.
Suggest one of your top 10 movies of all time, or one of your guilty pleasures that you may not admit to enjoy watching. (Hint- don't say "Porn" in general :P You have to fess up to a favorite title)
Suggest somthing you think I may like, or somthing you feel my life will not be complete without seeing at least once.. whether I like it or not.
It's ok if you don't know if I've seen it or not. If I have, trust me, I'll tell you :P
So.. don't be afraid.
I've got some free rentals to burn.

Edit:
Didn't want to make a new post just for this.. so here's a meme I found when I was poking through Elya's LJ. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! XD Whyyyyy????

or? what about 'and'?
My favourite, apart from the obvious, is 'Snatch', a Guy Ritchie film. A lil bit of blood in it, but very nice ^^

My Guilty Pleasure...

Girls gone Wild #44872 Yeah, that girl half way into it, damn, talk about 'ass'ets hoo YEAH!!

k kidding kidding. My actual guilty pleasure, is, Street Fighter. Yes, the one with Kylie Minogue and JCVD in it.
HIDE your facekyonomiko on October 17th, 2003 01:17 am (UTC)
Wow! I didn't know kylie minouge was in Street Fighter.
<3 Raul Julia
I'll have to watch it again sometime.

I've seen Snatch and Lock, Stock& Two smoking barrels.. and I didn't like either of them. Too goddamned much screaming all at once :(
Though, I thoroughly enjoyed Brad P in Snatch ^..^
Amy Blackamyblack on October 17th, 2003 01:31 am (UTC)
Screaming? Hmm... interesting ^^;; I haven't seen L,S,TSB yet though...

Yeah, Kylie was Cammy XD The Singing Budgie, now the Kickboxing Budgie :P or as one magazine described her as hehe

Ming Na Wen from Joy Luck Club was in it as well, so was the guy that played Ghandi (wow, what a step :P). I need to watch it again actually. I rmemeber going through it once, and trying to find any of their special moves. Ryu actually does do his 'fireball' in it. Like, point blank, so there is only a flash, but if you do happen to watch it again, it's at the end when he's fighting 'The Spanish Guy', since his name changes depending on where the game came from XD

shush
I like Christopher Lambert :P

I love that movie, though.
My favorite part is when the ninja assasin comes to assasinate the girl and asks her if she wants a fast and painless death, or a long and painful one.
She then answers that she wants the longest and most painful death imaginable, so that through the pain she knows that she truly was alive.

The Princess Bride.

Just kidding! -_-;

A few I liked: GATTACA, Ghost World, The Royal Tenenbaums, Shanghai Knights. I saw a really funny independent film about cops and I can't remember what it was called. >< I've looked for the title online all morning, so I had better give up and go to work.

Guilty pleasures: 10 Things I Hate About You, Heartbreakers

Shaolin Soccer is the film I really want to recommend, but it doesn't even come to theaters here until April 15th, sadly. Still, keep it in mind.

XD
Princess Bride? WTF is tht???? XD

We own GATTACA & The Royal Tenenbaums.. I saw Shanghai Knights in the theatres.
I haven't seen Ghost World yet, but I've been thinkging about it :)

I'll admit to having seen 10 Things I Hate About You more than once.. and thinking Heath Ledger was rather charming :D

I've seen most of Shaolin Soccer.. and I'm waiting for the theatre release, because I'd really like to see the end.. heh

;_;
You mean you've seen The Princess Bride already??? Damn.

Steve Buscemi is in Ghost World, and I can't get enough of Steve Buscemi. Actually I really don't like to watch movies, which is why I don't have much to recommend. I could barely think of those few that I liked. The only reason I remembered GATTACA is because Tokio's copy is lying on my desk under a stack of CDs.

Re: XD
Super Troopers, it's called! I thought it would be terrible, but it was really very funny. Many people I know who saw it had the same experience!

Nooooooo! Not super troopers!

Considering I work in a movie store: :D

Foreign films (if you can track them down):
Another Heaven
City of Lost Souls
Sharkskin Man and Peachhip Girl
Wasabi

American:
Normal (it's an HBO movie about a man who lives in the midwest revealing on his 25th wedding anniversary that he's a woman trapped in a man's body)
Jimmy Show
Love Liza (though this movie is freaking depressing)
Shanghai Knights :D
House of 1000 Corpse
Undercover Brother

Uhm..I'm sure there's more. oh wait

Better Luck Tomorrow. Damn good movie, about a bunch of seemingly perfect hoodlum Asian students. You must rent this.

Bend it Like Beckham was cute too.

HIDE your facekyonomiko on October 17th, 2003 12:40 pm (UTC)
ooohh
Lots on here I haven't seen! XD
I haven't seen any of those foreign ones, but I can probably track them down.
From the American ones.. I've seen Shanghai Knights, and I thought House of 1000 Corpses was great. I'll probably buy that one eventually.
Better Luck Tomorrow- Wasn't that an MTV movie?? And it's on video now? I might check it out.
Haven't seen Bend it like Beckham yet.. but everyone says it's good. I don't have anyone to watch it with.. but that'll probably be the case for most of the ones I'll end up renting XD

*laughs* I LOVED Kikujiro. Though admittedly, one of the main reasons I watched it was because of this Mana x Izamu fic I read.... *blushes* ^_^;

Reccomendations? Mmm... 'M Butterfly'. And 'Victor, Victoria'. ^_____^ Wheee, Julie Andrews as a fake drag queen. So good.

Guilty pleasures.... I really like 'Road to ElDorado' and '13 Ghosts'... ^_^;
HIDE your facekyonomiko on October 17th, 2003 12:41 pm (UTC)
:X
I own both of your guilty pleasures on DVD.
Wait... I may not have Road to El Dorado, but I'm sure I've inteded to buy it for a while XD

I want to rent Kikujiro because of Beat Takeshi, mostly. I haven't seen many of his movies, but he's very cool... and when I read the description for the movie, it sounded very cute.

Re: :X
I think I bought RtE the day it came out... but I worked at a video store!!! I have an excuse... ^_^; I bought 13 Ghosts on DVD because I NEEDED to see the Ghosts backstory. Them and Matthew Lillard are the best bits about that movie. ^_^

It's really funny, in an oddly bizarre kind of way. Though the movie is surprisingly empty of extras...
the singer and the songelya_chan on October 17th, 2003 08:25 am (UTC)
Ooh, the two I was going to recommend have already been posted.. that would be "Another Heaven" and "Wasabi". All other coolness aside, the silly fangirlish reasons to watch them are:
- Another Heaven has Luna Sea on the soundtrack.
- Wasabi has Jean Reno playing DDR in a Tokyo arcade. XD

"Kikujiro" is fun and quirky, highly enjoyable (with Joe Hisaishi on the soundtrack, good stuff there). "Taboo," the one with Ryuhei Matsuda, is absoLUTEly droolworthy... after renting it about five times I decided I had to buy it, so if you still haven't managed to see it by A-kon next year let me know and I'll bring it! *lol*

Also noteworthy are "Pyrokinesis" (Hastings has it filed under anime, but it's live action... ask me sometime about our theory of how corporate categorizes things...) and "Onmyoji" (though my Hastings doesn't have it to rent, only to buy, your mileage may vary - again, it'll probably be in the anime section). "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Identity" are good mind-benders, in different ways. If you haven't seen "Real Women Have Curves" yet, DO. It's wonderful. ^_^

Guilty pleasure: Days of Thunder. Mwehehe.
HIDE your facekyonomiko on October 17th, 2003 12:46 pm (UTC)
AHH?
Days of Thunder?? The Tom Cruise car racing movie??
BWAHAHAHAHAH XD
I would have never guessed.

Well, if you think Taboo is worth it, then I will just hunt it down and buy it. Hastings always misfiles it. -..-*

You work at Hastings now? I didn't even know you had a livejournal XD
Well, after a year, I quit over there, and I work at Gamestop now, but I can gossip about the backwards way they do things for a long long time.
You know Snoop dog's porno.. called.. Anal adventures or somthing silly like that... At hasting's.. it's filed under preforming arts XD
My store has a copy of Onmyoji for sale. I wasn't sure about it.. because it looked awfully cheesey.. but it could be good, you know?
What do you think?
the singer and the songelya_chan on October 22nd, 2003 08:58 am (UTC)
Re: AHH?
Yep, I've worked for Hastings since last December, and I really enjoy it, even if it is rather bass-ackwards. *lol* I just started my livejournal back in September, though - I was feeling too lazy to rework my diaryland site. ^_^;;;

I'll get you the UPC for Taboo so you can be sure of getting the right version if you have to special order it. ^_^ *makes mental note to look for that tonight*

Onmyoji's actually not as cheesy as it looks - it's very beautifully done, has a decent plot, and the title character is played by a renowned Kyogen performer who is just a joy to watch in motion.
HIDE your facekyonomiko on October 22nd, 2003 12:48 pm (UTC)
Re: AHH?
I might have to pick up Onmyoji, then. I know we have a copy at my store, and I'll probably buy it along with X vol 7, since I'm a little behind.
Yeah.. Hastings does some backwards shit. Still.. it was the best job I'd worked until I quit and went to Gamestop.
I worked there for a little over a year.. started out front counter.. moved to back room, where I did general ICA stuff for a while. I tried doing GSM for a little while, but it sucked. In the end, before I quit, I was in charge of stocking magazines, doing price changes and markdowns, and I had the unfortunate honor of being in charge of the speed tables. I just got so fed up with it. You don't really get a feel for how messed up everything is until you spend 8 hours a day trying to find items in the store that it SAYS you have. XP
Anyway. I'm at the Gamestop close by.. and I'm happy :D

Glad to have you onboard LJ, though ^..^

phhht
And that's exactly why I love Christopher Lambert XD
Well... I'm going to get a little scientific on you.
There used to be a land bridge between asia and N. America, and it's beleive that is how the native americans settled this area. It's beleived that bands of nomads followed the herds of their prey over the land bridge, and settled N. America. Studies on skulls also show a lot of mongoloid charictaristics that are found in skulls from asia, so there's a strong genetic tie between the bone structures of the native americans and east asians.
Ringo: wai!applcheeks on October 17th, 2003 08:52 pm (UTC)
Well I would say Hairspray but you know that already. XD

So.....Mupppet Treasure Island. It's funny sooooooooo much better than that crappy space movie that should never have been made. XP
Masakorasenyuugi on October 19th, 2003 04:57 pm (UTC)
I have yet to see it myself, but Kairo is supposedly a very interesting Japanese horror film.
